We are absolutely delighted to welcome Michal Oren back to conduct Salomon Orchestra in this post-Valentine’s Day concert. Three fabulous pieces, three famous love stories - a perfect prelude to a romantic dinner after the concert!
We will post more about each piece in the programme as we get closer to the concert, but for any younger readers, the Piano Concerto was used in the 1945 film “Brief Encounter”.
Michal Oren is one of six semi-finalists in the upcoming 80th Concours de Genève Conducting Competition (2025-2026). Recently, Michal held the Female Conductor Trainee position at Opera North in Leeds, UK (2024-2025).

Michal won 1st prize in the 4th International Academy and Competition of Orchestra Conducting in Estoril, Portugal (2023), and 2nd prizes in the 5th Kussewitzky Conducting Competition in Grosseto, Italy (2025), and in the 3rd International Orchestral Conducting Competition “Universidad de Almeria”, Spain (2023). In 2024, she joined the two-year Women Conductors’ Programme of the Royal Philharmonic Society with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, led by Alice Farnham. Michal was the Resident Music Scholar of the Robert Anderson Trust (2022-2025), and since 2015, has been a scholar of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (with the highest distinction for 2024-2026). In June 2024, she was invited by maestro Martyn Brabbins to jointly conduct a concert with him and the Salomon Orchestra, and she performed in the Young Conductors Showcase with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Glasgow.
Recently, Michal completed her Professional Diploma in conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London, receiving a full scholarship under the conductor Sian Edwards and the Bianca Falcone Sorrell Award. She earned her master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Royal College of Music, supported by a full scholarship as a Victor and Lilian Hochhauser Scholar. Michal was awarded a distinction for her two Bachelor of Music degrees in orchestral conducting and clarinet performance from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. Among Michal’s teachers are the conductors Martyn Brabbins, Toby Purser, Peter Stark, Howard Williams, Yi-An Xu, Doron Salomon, Dr Dale Lonis, and the IPO principal clarinettist Yevgeny Yehudin.
As part of her modern approach, Michal initiated a museum chamber orchestra with the Petah Tikva Museum of Contemporary Art in Israel. The orchestra performs a repertoire that offers musical interpretations of visual art exhibits. Since its establishment, the orchestra has performed a series of concerts in conjunction with various exhibitions across Israel.
