Michael Ronan - Baritone
Salomon are pleased to have the opportunity to perform Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs with Northumbrian-born bass-baritone Michael Ronan at Smith Square Hall on the 9th February, conducted by Christopher Stark.
Michael Ronan is an up-and-coming artist praised for his ‘commanding voice and stage presence’ (Evening Standard). He has recently finished a season as a Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne performing the roles of Masetto in Don Giovanni, The Keeper of the Madhouse in The Rakes Progress (also covering Nick Shadow), and 2nd Commissaire in Dialogues des Carmélites.
Michael has seen recent success as the winner the Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition Richard Tauber Prize, The Worshipful Company of Musician’s Prince’s Prize, Glyndebourne’s 2023 John Christie Award, and the Royal Academy of Music’s 2022 Bicentenary Prize with his winning performance described as ‘outstandingly moving’.

With Royal Academy Opera, Michael has performed Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rakes Progress, Don Inigo Gomez in Ravel’s L’Heure Espagnole, Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Quince in Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He has sung Polyphemus in Handel’s Acis and Galatea with Ensemble OrQuesta, and John Proctor in The Crucible by Robert Ward at OPERNFEST, Berlin.
In 2024 Michael made his debut at Wuppertal Opera House as Herr Reich in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, and is currently at Glyndebourne where he is understudy for the role of Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia.
