Christmas Greetings.
The Salomon Orchestra wishes everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
In late January 2024 we start rehearsing for our concert on February 11 at St John's, Smith Square. We'll send out a social media post as soon as booking opens. It promises to be a wonderful concert with Philip Hesketh conducting and Fenella Humphreys playing Korngold's glorious violin concerto.
The approach of the new year is traditionally the time to look back over the one coming to its close. For us, it started in February with Matt Scott Rogers conducting Lili Boulanger's two symphonic poems (D'un matin de Printemps and D'un soir trist), Vaughan Williams' Sixth symphony, and Fenella Humphreys’ performance of Grace Williams' violin concerto.
In May, Edmon Colomer conducted a spectacular programme of Spanish works from Turina, de Falla and Giménez: but the centrepiece was the rarely performed Soirées de Barcelona by Robert Gerhard.
Due to world events, our concert in October - which was going to be our 60th Anniversary celebration - had to be cancelled. The good news is that we have secured Martyn Brabbins and Michal Oren to conduct the same concert on June 1, 2024.
In addition to these promotions, Salomon accompanied the Waltham Singers in Haydn's Creation in Chelmsford Cathedral, and worked with Martyn Brabbins and four conducting students at the Royal College of Music on Mahler’s First Symphony.
So, 2023 was a year of highs and lows. 2024 is shaping up well, with two of the concert programmes confirmed, and we have further dates in the diary. Please stay in touch by following and sharing our social media (Facebook, X, Threads, Instagram). And, of course, keep an eye on our website and subscribe to our Substack.
Onwards to 2024...
